Getting acquainted
Understand why your network needs a certificate server and which maintenance arrangements may suit it.

Find and choose a certificate server, or deploy your own for your network. ARCnet Directory is intended as a starting point for deciding which service should verify your devices and how your infrastructure will be maintained. It provides a convenient way to explore and choose, rather than a mandatory centre through which every ARCnet network must operate.

Planned · This page describes the intended model. A public release has not been announced; available features and supported devices will be clarified as development progresses.
A certificate server handles device identities and access permissions. It also belongs to particular maintenance arrangements: the owner's infrastructure, an administrator or a support service. Directory should help explain the available options and lead you to the information needed for a considered choice, instead of relying on a server address alone.
If you want to maintain your private network independently, a directory should not limit you to third-party offerings. Running your own certificate server is also an intended path. Directory will help you move from understanding the model to deployment information; it will not replace the server or perform its functions.
A directory listing does not grant network access or make a server automatically trusted. Choosing a service, verifying its identity and connecting devices remain separate actions. Directory serves discovery, while ARCnet Identity handles certificates and permissions.
Private infrastructure should be able to operate without appearing in a public directory. When a server's address is already known, the intended model allows direct connection. Directory participation also does not imply agreement to federation: sharing resources with other participants remains a separate, voluntary decision.
The public Directory is intended to include guidance on choosing a server and materials for your own deployment. If you need help, you will be able to explore the terms of a particular support service. Infometric Cloud is preparing to offer one such option: help with setting up and maintaining your own ARCnet network. Its website explains the planned service; connections are not yet available.
Understand why your network needs a certificate server and which maintenance arrangements may suit it.
Choose to deploy a server for your private infrastructure without mandatory publication in a directory.
Connect directly to your infrastructure; searching Directory remains an additional convenience.
